Gethsemane Lutheran School (GLS) offers a state licensed, curriculum-based Early Childhood Education preschool program for children ages 3-5. As a Christian preschool, we seek to help children grow physically, intellectually, socially, academically and spiritually.

Our Mission Statement:

Gethsemane Lutheran School exists to provide a strong Christ-centered academic education in a caring atmosphere, assisting in spiritual awareness, discernment, and training.

Our Purpose:

The primary purpose of our preschool is to assist families in providing a Christ-centered education for the children of our church congregation and the surrounding community. We aim to consider each child’s physical, intellectual, social and spiritual needs as we train them to grow in their love of Christ.

Jesus in Everything:

The primary task for our preschool is to ensure that each child knows that they are a loved child of God. Each day of preschool contains the best offering we have – God’s Word. Children will learn Bible stories. They will learn simple prayers and Bible passages. They will praise God in song and have the opportunity to join the grade school in weekly chapel devotions.

Curriculum-based Learning:

Our preschool establishes schedule and purpose with each day through curriculum. We follow the lead of HighScope Curriculum. The curriculum is geared toward actively developing minds and properly prepares each child for Kindergarten. Children are exposed to the basics of math, science and language arts. They learn how to count and sort and how to recognize patterns. They will begin to write the letters of the alphabet and will be exposed to concepts of reading readiness. They will learn to problem solve both in social and concrete situations. They will think out of the box. Our teachers are there to build on their ideas.

Hands-on Learning:

Our teaching methods are best described as “Active Learning”. Your child will be participating in hands-on, exploratory activities. They will play, experiment, converse and invent. At our preschool we try to use this hands-on approach as often as possible. Hands-on learning aids in motor skill development in children. Small motor skills and hand/eye coordination are strengthened through play, puzzles, toys and art projects. Large motor skills are strengthened during music time and recess.

Morning & Full Day Options:

Our preschool program offers Morning Sessions and Full Day Sessions. Our Morning Sessions are offered Monday-Friday from 8:10 am to 12:00 pm. The Full Day Sessions are Monday-Friday from 8:10 am to 3:20 pm. Aftercare is also available for families that need a program from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Since our preschool is connected to our grade school, the preschool program follows the standard school year calendar.

Physical Activity:

Young children require both physical activity and rest. Our daily schedule ensures that the students get their daily exercise and interaction through play. We also provide quiet time and naps during the day so that the students are able to handle the addition of everything a preschool day consists of.

Safe Environment:

Gethsemane Lutheran School is aware of the ever-present dangers to students in our world. GLS is always looking at ways to make our facilities safe for your child and our faculty. Our staff has building and medical emergency preparedness training yearly to allow the safest learning experience for your child.
